BCB Filtration System Achieves Zero Emissions On Large Scale

06 June 2006

Leading independent hazardous waste transfer operator, BCB Environmental Management Ltd, has continued its ground breaking investment with the launch of its innovative zero emissions carbon filtration system.

The system is pioneering new territory within the hazardous waste sector, where such technology has apparently never been used for extracting Volatile Organic Components (VOCs), on a scale which achieves zero emissions for an entire operation. VOC’s, otherwise known as solvents, are typically present in such common waste streams as paints, adhesives and inks.

Following extensive engineering input, the jumbo filter represents the last piece in the jigsaw in a £1million overall investment in BCB’s waste transfer facility. The filter supports BCB’s purpose built “Green Room”, where it provides an outflow of clean air from the facility, filtering any airborne contaminants which might have resulted from the emptying of liquids into bulk tankers and the crushing and shredding of waste tins and drums.

The BCB site near York was officially opened in April 2005 following the award of an Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control licence (IPPC) and has seen business grow significantly following the introduction of The Hazardous Waste Regulations in July 2005, which made manufacturers more accountable for an extended list of everyday hazardous waste materials.

The transfer site is able to provide an audit trail to track waste from cradle to grave and is supported by advanced technology, a modern laboratory and a team of chemists providing accurate characterisation of waste to identify the most suitable disposal route. Clients range from the petrochemical to the engineering and manufacturing industries.
