Press Release: 2 November 2005 - BCB Launches New Corporate Image To Raise Its Profile In The Waste Transfer Sector
2th November 2005Leading independent hazardous waste transfer specialist, BCB Environmental Management Ltd, has launched a new corporate image to reflect the significant investment that it has made in new facilities and technology over the past few months. BCB’s previous logo, featuring a lorry symbol, reinforced the company’s skills in offering a national collection service through its own fleet of vehicles. However it was felt that this logo did not portray BCB’s competitive edge in specialist technical skills, advanced technology and scale of operations. Modern waste transfer premises, a purpose built laboratory supported by a team of chemists and a customised electronic control system monitoring the movement of containers, all helped secure the award of BCB’s IPPC permit in March 2005. The new image retains BCB’s corporate colours of red and blue but now incorporates a shape icon to suggest movement, professionalism and an altogether fresher look to support this enhanced profile. As part of the company’s focus upon marketing, the new logo is being introduced across company liveries, promotional tools and website over the coming weeks. Phil Boardman, Managing Director, adds: “BCB already differentiate in terms of service and environmental compliance. We are now starting to differentiate on marketing to reinforce the message that we intend to be the leading independent hazardous waste transfer operator within the industry”.

Preparation for the introduction of The Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005
9th June2005As previously advised, the new Hazardous Waste Regulations come into force on July 17. If you are a producer of hazardous waste, you need to know your legal obligations under this Act and the impact it is likely to have on your business. The principal changes wrought are as follows:-
Notification of Premises to Environment Agency - you need to register with the EA as a producer of hazardous waste. If you fail to register you commit an offence and will not be able to legally dispose of your wastes. We highly recommend that you register now - if you would like BCB to register your premises please return the previously issued registration form (also available as a download below) as soon as possible.
Registered Hazardous Waste Producers are liable to summary inspection by the EA (which has the power to issue spot fines for breaches of the Regulations).
The mixing of hazardous wastes is prohibited - including mixing with non-hazardous.
The consignee (ie. BCB) for your hazardous wastes is required to supply you with a written report detailing the ultimate disposal of your waste types together with a copy of the fully completed consignment note. You are obliged to make sure you receive this report and keep the record available for inspection.
The consignee for your hazardous waste is charged with collecting statutory charges for the EA and reporting all hazardous waste transfers by waste type. This is a substantial task and administrative charges will be increased.
The responsibility for defining (characterising) your waste types is expanded to include:-
EWC code
Quantity
Chemical components and concentrations
Physical form
Hazard code
Container type and size
Packing group
UN number
Proper shipping name
UN class
Special handling requirements
The EWC code is particularly significant and likely to be an area of scrutiny by the EA.
BCB will, of course, render as much assistance as possible to ensure a smoothtransition to the new regime. You are advised to read the draft regulations, available via the link below.

OPENING CEREMONY FOR THE GREEN HANGAR - REVIEW OF A SUCCESSFUL TWO DAYS !
4th April 2005Thursday and Friday last week saw the official opening ceremony, over two days, of The Green Hangar. At 1.00pm on Thursday, BCB Customers and staff gathered at The Green Hangar, Tockwith for a champagne reception and an introduction to the event by Managing Director Phil Boardman. Guests were then taken on an informative guided tour of the facility, conducted by the MD himself with additional contributions from Graeme Tolmie, Adrian Boardman and our technology partners, Bartec Systems. Following the tours, customers were invited to enjoy refreshments in the marquee with an opportunity to put some questions to the BCB Management Team. The day was blessed with good weather and the whole event was a resounding success. On Friday the sun was shining again as BCB welcomed industry affiliates and waste brokers to the second day of the event. By coincidence, this second day heralded the arrival of the latest addition to the BCB fleet - a new Scania tractor unit. Driver Bryan couldn't hide his glee at the prospect of getting behind the wheel of his new truck. On the other hand, driver George had other plans.you had to be there! In his introductions to the event Phil Boardman asked visitors to keep three concepts in mind: technology, compliance and environmental performance. He said, "We are simply, as a company, looking to mark what we consider to be a remarkable achievement and share that with interested parties. Celebrate it even. We've brought you together this afternoon to convince you that this facility represents a new future for standards in hazardous waste management in the UK. If anyone considers that a vain boast at the end of the afternoon, I would be genuinely interested in hearing their opinion." "Thank you for an enjoyable, informative tour of what is clearly an excellent facility and a benchmark for others to aspire to" - Mark Taylor MD, Cleartech Waste Services Ltd. "Very impressive" - Autoglym (Altro Group) "An excellent facility" - Andy Ridout, Sericol "I was very impressed with your new facility and its presentation on Friday, You have all been working very hard" - Denise James, MD Total Waste Control "Not only have you set a very high bench mark in our industry but you have a very nice team of of able and willing staff behind you and this holds you all in very high regard." - Andrew Leigh, Acumen Waste Services. Before the event close Phil Boardman thanked everyone for attending the event and special thanks were made to Bartec and BCB colleagues whose hard work and dedication had helped to make the concept of The Green Hangar a working reality. The ceremony finally ended at 7pm on Friday (the bar was dry!!) when BCB staff and friends made their way via mini-buses into York to carry on the celebrations and take a well-earned 'let your hair down' night out together.
