Green Light for Groundbreaking Waste Management Initiative

26 October 2004

BCB are delighted to announce that the green light was given on Tuesday 26 October for their groundbreaking waste management initiative with the granting of planning consent for their new facility. This announcement follows a twelve month period of preparation and hard work by the Managing Director and a team of industry consultants to secure the development of BCB's future in the form of a bespoke waste transfer station with increased levels of capacity. The new site will juxtapose state of the art technology & IT with new standards in pollution prevention and control to deliver what BCB consider will be the most modern and capable facility of it's type in the UK.

Whilst the successful achievement of planning and IPPC licensing for the new site has been at the fore thrust of the company's agenda in the last year, Directors and Management have also been working hard to develop an optimum infrastructure and personnel team to ensure that the new site will also deliver new standards of both technical and customer service. In preparation for this the company has recently expanded its team to include a new chemist, with Claire Davidson joining us from Shanks, as well as additional technicians, operatives and administrative staff. In the coming months this expansion will continue to create the levels of staff required to successfully manage the new operation.

In an interview with the webmaster following the planning hearing, BCB Managing Director Phil Boardman issued the following brief statement.

"Whilst the question of planning consent was never, ultimately in doubt, we have to confess relief and a renewed sense of faith in the planning process that consent was granted at first pass. BCB have a very ambitious project in blueprint and it is important for the company, for the future of hazardous waste management in the UK, and for the local environment, that we are allowed to push the envelope without any further delay. This site will be a benchmark for standards and a model for our competitors to learn from."

Further Service Improvements Implemented

June 1st 2004

As a part of its commitment to providing unparalleled service to its clients and the wider environmental agenda, BCB is pleased to announce the implementation of a digital Fleet Management System. Designed to optimise vehicle costs and minimise environmental emissions (ISO 14001), the low cost system (supplied by Encom Limited) allows the real time tracking of vehicle movements, the upload and diagnosis of relevant cost and movement parameters, and the flexibility to manipulate the over-restrictive pressures of the Working Time Directive.

For BCB's clients, that means optimum transport costs and service. It also means that, once the system is integrated with the data management IT system that will beat at the heart of the new BCB facility (October, fingers crossed), we will not only be able to certify the disposal route of waste streams, but also allow clients to plot the physical movement and observe - remotely - the processing of their consignments.

Innovation and service - it doesn't get any better!

Co-disposal ends - what are you going to do with your waste now?

19th May 2004

On July 16 as part of the phased implementation of the Landfill Directive, the practice of co-disposal comes to an end in the U.K. That means the available capacity for hazardous waste landfill will be very significantly exceeded by the volume of waste being produced by industry.

On July 17 prices could rise substantially and waste producers who fail to act now may be caught in a situation where they cannot find a contractor to collect.

We have taken steps to ensure we have the necessary volumes available but would urge all our clients to take advantage of the closing window between now and July 16. At the very least, they will save money. There is sure to be a last minute rush!

Of course, DEFRA may yet come to its senses and postpone the ban. Don't bet on it.
